Monsoon likely to start early this year

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Overall, there is a possibility of 25 percent more rainfall than usual during the monsoon this year. Lahore, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Rawalpindi may receive 60 percent more rainfall than usual.

There is also a possibility of an early onset of monsoon this year. It has been predicted that this year s monsoon will be much stronger than last year. Given the situation, the risks of urban flooding during the monsoon have also increased.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), this year the monsoon may start in the last week of June instead of July. In this regard, the Director of PMD, Abdul Aziz, said that since there was 50 percent less snowfall than usual during the last winter, due to which the intensity of heat has also increased. He said that whenever the intensity of heat increases, this increase also leads to an increase in the intensity of the monsoon.

On the other hand, regarding the arrangements, PDMA Punjab Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that the situation is being closely monitored and instructions have been issued to the administrative authorities of all districts to keep their arrangements complete.
