The downpour hit several areas including Malir, Landhi, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Gulistan-e-Johar. Clouds also burst over North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Saddar, and Liaquatabad. Sarjani Town, PECHS, and Old City areas saw streets drenched in minutes.
Due to the continuous rain, roads across Karachi went underwater within a short span, leaving commuters stranded as traffic movement slowed to a crawl.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall was recorded in Nazimabad at 76.9 mm, followed by Gulshan-e-Hadeed with 75 mm. The Met Office itself recorded 59 mm, while North Nazimabad saw 56.8 mm.
Sarjani Town received 36 mm, Keamari 30 mm, and Saadi Town 24 mm. PAF Masroor Base recorded 23 mm, PAF Faisal 17 mm, and the Airport 13 mm. Meanwhile, Orangi Town received 12.2 mm, Gulshan-e-Maymar 11 mm, and Bahria Town just 4.8 mm.
Chief Meteorologist Anjum Naseer warned that the rainfall is expected to continue for the next two to three days. He cautioned that heavy showers may trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas, and said authorities are being kept updated on weather developments.
On the other hand, a Traffic Police spokesperson urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. Drivers were advised to stay alert, maintain safe distance, and exercise extreme caution to prevent accidents during emergencies.

Motorists were also instructed to keep headlights and wipers in proper working order, reduce speed, follow traffic rules, and cooperate with traffic officers stationed on the roads to assist commuters.
The torrential rains once again exposed Karachi’s fragile infrastructure, where a few hours of showers submerged major roads. The highest rainfall of 76.9 mm in Nazimabad reflects the intensity, while several other areas recorded significant showers.
Meteorologists’ warnings of more rain raise fears of worsening urban flooding, which could disrupt daily life and damage property. The Traffic Police advisory highlights the risks to commuters, stressing careful driving and patience on waterlogged roads.
The coming days will be critical for Karachi’s civic authorities as residents brace for continued heavy rain and its dangerous aftershocks.
