The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its 11th tropical cyclone alert, confirming that Severe Cyclone Shakti has now weakened into a regular cyclone. Although the threat has reduced, coastal communities have been advised to stay cautious as the system continues to stir up strong winds and high waves along the coastline.
According to the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center, Cyclone Shakti is currently positioned around 910 kilometers southwest of Karachi in the Arabian Sea. Meteorologists expect it to weaken further into a depression within the next 24 hours.
Coastal areas to experience light rain, gusty winds
While the cyclone is losing strength, its effects are still being felt across Sindh and Balochistan’s coastal regions, where intermittent light rain and strong winds are expected today.
The PMD warns that wind speeds could reach between 70 to 90 kilometers per hour, which could pose risks to coastal settlements, fishermen, and marine activities.
“The sea conditions remain rough and potentially dangerous,” said a PMD spokesperson. “We strongly advise against going out into deep waters until at least October 7.”
Fishermen told to stay ashore
Fishermen, particularly those operating from Karachi, Thatta, Ormara, and Gwadar, have been strongly urged to stay ashore, as sea conditions are expected to stay hazardous even as the cyclone continues to weaken.
Authorities also advised all coastal residents to stay updated through official weather alerts and to take safety precautions seriously during this period of instability in the Arabian Sea.

Eyes still on the Arabian Sea
Although Cyclone Shakti has passed its most intense phase, weather officials continue to monitor its path and strength closely. The situation is not yet completely risk-free, and residents in vulnerable areas are advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary movement near the coast.
