(Web Desk): A 5.7 magnitude earthquake shakes Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and northern Pakistan; no casualties reported.

Tremors from a moderate earthquake were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several northern regions of Pakistan on Friday morning, causing momentary panic among residents. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.7 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter located in the Hindu Kush mountains.

According to the PMD, the earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 12 kilometers, triggering noticeable shaking in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chitral, Dir, and other northern districts. Residents reported feeling the tremors in high-rise buildings and low-lying areas, prompting many to evacuate homes and offices briefly as a precaution.

Initial assessments suggest that there have been no casualties or major structural damage. Emergency services and local authorities have urged the public to remain calm while safety inspections continue in vulnerable areas.

Seismologists noted that the Hindu Kush region is a seismically active zone, making periodic tremors in northern Pakistan a common occurrence. They emphasized that while the earthquake was moderate, it serves as a reminder for citizens and authorities to remain prepared for seismic events.
