(Web Desk): Kuwait announces new residency rules and fees for expatriate families, including Pakistani nationals, expanding family coverage and tightening oversight.

Kuwait has rolled out new residency regulations and fees for expatriate families, a move that directly affects Pakistani families living in Kuwait. The reforms, announced by the Kuwait Ministry of Interior, aim to streamline residency categories, expand eligible family coverage, and strengthen compliance checks.

Key Changes to Expat Family Residency

Under the updated framework, spouses and children of expatriates—including Pakistani families—will now be regulated under Article 22, requiring full compliance with ministry conditions. Meanwhile, wives and husbands of Kuwaiti citizens will fall under Article 26, with a fixed annual fee of 15 KWD, applicable to both genders.

Widows and divorcees of Kuwaiti citizens are placed under Article 28, also subject to a 15 KWD annual fee, pending ministry approval.

New Provisions and Expanded Coverage

In a notable expansion of family eligibility, maternal uncles and aunts of Kuwaiti citizens are now covered under Article 27 and granted fee-free residency—a significant relief for extended families.

For parents of expatriates, the ministry has introduced stricter verification measures. Parents must pay a one-time fee of 300 KWD for initial renewal under Article 29, with subsequent renewals to be completed online.

What This Means for Pakistani Families

The changes bring clearer categories and standardized fees, but also tighter oversight—especially for sponsorships involving parents. Pakistani expats are advised to review their residency status, ensure documentation meets requirements, and plan for applicable fees and online renewals.

The Ministry says the reforms are designed to improve transparency, reduce misuse, and modernize residency management across Kuwait.
