(Web Desk): Punjab Examination Commission may restrict Grade 8 board exams to Urdu, English, Mathematics, and Science amid a severe budget shortfall.

A significant development has emerged regarding Grade 8 board examinations in Punjab, as the Punjab Examination Commission (PECTA) faces a major shortage of funds. Officials say the commission is considering conducting exams for only four core subjects—Urdu, English, Mathematics, and Science—due to limited financial resources.

Sources reveal that PECTA requires nearly Rs1 billion to conduct the examinations transparently and efficiently across the province. The shortage has prompted the commission to begin consultations with the Punjab government to secure the necessary funds.

Officials added that around 50,000 invigilators will be needed for the Grade 8 board exams. Invigilators are expected to receive daily remuneration for their duties, and the commission is taking measures to streamline operations. To simplify the process, students will not need to submit separate admission forms, as all registered students in the School Information System (SIS) will automatically receive their roll number slips.

More than one million students across Punjab are registered for the Grade 8 examinations this year. A final decision regarding the number of subjects and exam structure is expected soon. Education authorities stressed the importance of ensuring that the exams are conducted fairly despite financial challenges, emphasizing transparency and smooth administration.

Parents and students have been advised to stay updated on announcements from PECTA, as any changes to exam schedules or subjects will be communicated promptly.
