The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has categorically rejected rumors claiming that internet services across Pakistan would face disruptions or a shutdown on January 15. In an official statement, the authority labeled these reports as “baseless and misleading,” assuring users that all telecom networks are operating normally.
The PTA clarified that while routine maintenance is being carried out on an international submarine cable, this work does not pose any risk to internet service quality or connectivity. “Users can continue to access the internet without any interruption,” the watchdog added.

The clarification comes after a telecom company informed its customers that scheduled submarine cable maintenance could result in temporary slowdowns. This message sparked widespread speculation about a possible nationwide internet outage, which the PTA has now confirmed is unfounded.
To ensure uninterrupted internet access, PTA teams are continuously monitoring all networks across the country. Users are advised to ignore false messages circulating on social media and rely only on official updates from the PTA or their service providers.
Experts say that routine submarine cable maintenance is a common practice globally and is usually managed in a way that avoids service disruptions. The PTA’s proactive monitoring ensures that any minor issues are addressed immediately, safeguarding high-speed internet connectivity for residential and commercial users.
