Karachi (Web Desk): Pakistan has started sending food supplies to the Middle East as disruptions in supply routes caused by the war lead to shortages across the region.

Amid rising tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, Pakistan has started sending food shipments to Middle Eastern countries to help manage shortages caused by disrupted sea routes.

A senior official from the Ministry of Commerce said that six shipments have already been sent to Kuwait. These supplies are being further distributed to other countries in the region. The official added that daily meetings are being held to closely monitor the situation.

The move was taken on the directions of the prime minister. After discussions with Middle Eastern countries, Pakistan received a list of 56 food items in demand. Of these, 16 were considered essential for domestic use and were not allowed for export, while the remaining 40 surplus items are now being shipped abroad.

The exported goods include rice, sugar, edible oil, fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, and dairy products. Officials say the aim is to support friendly countries without affecting local supply.

Authorities also said that business-to-business activities are being encouraged. The private sector is leading the export process, while the government is facilitating traders and providing logistical support.

Some shipments are also being routed through Oman. From there, the supplies are transported by land to reach their final destinations in the region.

Officials stressed that strict checks are in place to ensure that only surplus food is exported, preventing any shortage within Pakistan.
