Loan limit raised to 10 million in Mera Ghar Mera Aashiyana as ECC fixes 5 percent interest rate.
The Economic Coordination Committee approved key changes to the low-cost housing scheme “Mera Ghar Mera Aashiyana” in a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
Under the new decision, the housing loan ceiling has been increased to 10 million, allowing citizens to purchase larger residential units with government-backed financial support. The move is expected to benefit middle and lower-income families struggling to own a house.
In another major relief, the committee set a uniform interest rate of 5 percent for all homebuyers under the scheme. Officials confirmed that previously approved loans will also be adjusted to the new reduced interest rate, ensuring equal financial benefits for existing borrowers.
According to housing ministry officials, the reforms aim to make home ownership more accessible while boosting the construction sector. The government believes that easier financing will encourage new housing projects, generate employment opportunities, and stimulate related industries including cement and steel.
