LAHORE (Web Desk): LESCO announces a huge hike in new electric meter installation fees, raising the cost to Rs21,300 for new connections.

The Lahore Electric Supply Company has increased the cost of installing new electricity meters, putting additional pressure on consumers. The new charges have been approved by the company’s board of directors.

According to the notification, consumers will now have to pay Rs21,300 for a new connection. This includes Rs17,700 for the meter and cable, along with Rs3,600 as security charges.

Earlier, the total cost for a new meter was much lower. Consumers used to pay Rs4,000 for the meter and Rs2,400 as security, making the overall amount significantly less than the current charges.

Sources say the increase has greatly benefited the company. In addition to the revised fee, consumers will also have to pay contractor charges and other miscellaneous costs, further increasing the total expense.

It is reported that some LESCO officials had opposed the hike. However, the chairman and board members approved the increase despite concerns.

The new charges have come into effect immediately. Applicants seeking new electricity connections will now be required to deposit the higher amount without any delay.

This decision has raised concerns among consumers, especially at a time when inflation and utility costs are already high. Many people fear that the added financial burden will make it harder to manage household expenses.
