Preparations are underway in Lahore to celebrate the annual Basant festival from February 6 to 8, with authorities finalizing venues, security measures, and safety arrangements to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration for citizens.
Designated Venues for Celebrations
The administration has identified several locations for Basant festivities, including Greater Iqbal Park, Jallo Park, Jilani Park, Gulshan Iqbal Park, and Model Town Park. Officials are also considering allowing Basant activities in select areas of the Walled City to expand celebrations while maintaining safety standards.
Ban on Hazardous Kite Strings
Authorities have announced a complete ban on the use of metallic, wire, and chemically coated kite strings, commonly known as “manja,” during the festival. Violators will face strict action, and a reward of Rs. 5,000 has been announced for individuals who report the use of banned kite strings. This initiative aims to prevent accidents and encourage timely reporting of unsafe practices.
Permitted Kite Strings and Monitoring
Kite flying will only be allowed using weak glass-coated or traditional manja strings. Special monitoring teams will remain active throughout the festival to prevent the use of hazardous materials and ensure adherence to the rules.
