Residents of Karachi are likely to experience water supply disruptions for the next four days as the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) carries out urgent repairs on an 84-inch main water pipeline. The work began on Monday at 12pm and is part of the high-priority K-4 water augmentation project.
Officials reported that the leakage was detected in the Phase-I main line in Block 19, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, prompting immediate repair operations. The maintenance aims to stabilise the city’s water supply system and ensure uninterrupted delivery ahead of Ramazan.
A KWSC spokesperson confirmed that specialised technical teams are supervising the repairs to expedite completion. While the work is expected to take 60 hours, authorities have extended the timeline to 96 hours as a precaution in case additional issues arise.

During the repair period, the Dhabeji Pumping Station will reduce its water supply temporarily. Normally, Karachi receives around 650 million gallons of water per day, but during maintenance, the city will receive approximately 450 million gallons daily.
The areas likely to be affected include Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Jinnah, Chanesar, Saddar, Lyari, and Clifton. Additionally, Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will remain closed temporarily until the repairs are completed.
KWSC has advised residents to store water in advance and use it conservatively until normal supply resumes. Authorities stressed the repair is essential to prevent future disruptions and improve the city’s long-term water infrastructure.
