Traffic police confirmed that the ongoing operation against vehicles using unapproved or decorative number plates has been temporarily suspended. Officials said the decision was taken to avoid difficulties for citizens during the current weather conditions.
According to DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, the move was made on the instructions of Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan. He explained that the main purpose of the campaign is to ensure public safety and order, not to create inconvenience for residents.
Despite the suspension of the crackdown, traffic police personnel remain deployed on major roads and intersections across the city. DIG Pir Muhammad Shah personally visited different areas to review the traffic situation and ensure officers continue monitoring traffic flow.

He said traffic staff from all 90 traffic sections of Karachi have been assigned to the roads to assist the public and manage traffic effectively during the weather situation.
Officials added that the campaign against fancy number plates will remain on hold until the weather improves. Once conditions become normal, the authorities are expected to restart the enforcement drive.
Earlier, Karachi police had launched a large-scale crackdown against vehicles and motorcycles using illegal, decorative, or fake number plates. The operation was conducted on the orders of Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan.
The campaign involved several departments, including traffic police, district police, excise authorities, the driving license branch, and the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC). The goal was to improve security and make it easier for law enforcement agencies to identify vehicles involved in crimes.
Police believe that unapproved number plates create security risks because they make it difficult to trace vehicles during criminal investigations.
