Karachi’s Additional Inspector General, Javed Alam Odho, has issued a stern warning that the police will launch strict action against motorists using fake, tampered, or illegal number plates. He emphasized that the crackdown will be carried out without discrimination, urging all vehicle and motorcycle owners to replace their plates with legal ones before the December 5 deadline. After this date, any vehicle found with an illegal plate will be seized on the spot.
The warning comes as authorities continue efforts to curb the rising misuse of fake number plates, a problem that has intensified since the introduction of the e-challan system. Many drivers reportedly began using counterfeit plates in an attempt to escape fines and electronic monitoring.
Despite the earlier October 31 deadline requiring motorists to switch to Sindh’s official Ajrak-style number plates, a large number of vehicles still remain non-compliant. Data from the Excise Department shows that Sindh has over 6.5 million registered motorcycles, with Karachi alone accounting for more than 3.3 million. Officials say this widespread non-compliance has complicated traffic monitoring and law enforcement efforts across the city.

Police officials confirmed that many violators have already been identified through surveillance and traffic monitoring systems. With the new deadline approaching, authorities have made it clear that no leniency will be shown once the enforcement drive begins. The upcoming crackdown aims to improve road safety, enhance traceability, and curb the growing trend of evading fines through illegal number plates.
