LAHORE (Web Desk): Islamabad airport becomes Pakistan’s first to launch 5G services, offering passengers high-speed internet and improved digital facilities.

The service has been introduced in collaboration with a private telecom company, aiming to improve the travel experience by offering faster internet and modern digital features for passengers.

Officials said the new 5G connectivity will allow travelers to enjoy ultra-fast internet access, making communication, online work, and digital services more convenient while at the airport.

The development comes after Pakistan completed a 5G spectrum auction worth $507 million, which is expected to boost internet speeds and expand next-generation services across the country.

Telecom operators have said that initial 5G services will be launched in Islamabad and provincial capitals, with plans to gradually extend coverage to other cities in the future. In the auction, the government sold a total of 480 MHz spectrum out of a target of 597 MHz. Major telecom companies, including Jazz, Zong, and Ufone, secured frequencies to roll out 5G services.

According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, spectrum was sold across multiple bands, including 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz, enabling operators to begin next-generation network deployment.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also stated that the government is providing full support to investors in the telecom and digital sectors to strengthen the country’s digital economy.

Industry leaders have welcomed these developments, saying Pakistan is moving towards a more transparent investment environment and faster digital transformation with the introduction of 5G services.
