(Web Desk): As Eid al-Fitr 2026 approaches, the State Bank of Pakistan has activated its 8877 SMS service to help citizens obtain fresh currency notes through official channels.

With the arrival of Eid al-Fitr 2026, demand for fresh currency notes has surged across the country as families prepare to distribute Eid gifts. Every year, citizens rush to secure new notes for “Eidi,” and this time the trend has already begun.

The State Bank of Pakistan has advised people to avoid buying notes at inflated prices from street vendors or unauthorized sellers. Authorities have warned that trading currency notes in the black market is illegal and encouraged citizens to use official banking channels instead.

One of the easiest ways to obtain fresh notes is through the 8877 SMS service. The service is usually activated during the second week of Ramadan. To apply, citizens must open their mobile SMS app, type their CNIC number, add a space, and enter the designated bank branch code. The message should then be sent to 8877. Applicants receive a unique transaction code and branch details via SMS.

After receiving the code, individuals must visit the assigned branch with their original CNIC and a photocopy for verification. Bank officials confirm the code and typically issue packets of 10, 20, and 50 rupee notes.

In major cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, the State Bank of Pakistan branches and its Banking Services Corporation offices maintain a larger stock of fresh notes under a “first come, first served” system.

Commercial banks also receive limited allocations and often prioritize their existing account holders. During the last ten days of Ramadan, ATMs may also dispense crisp 500 and 1000 rupee notes for convenience.

Authorities urge citizens to rely on official channels and report illegal selling of new notes to ensure transparency and fair access.
