(Web Desk): An official inquiry into the Bhati Gate incident finds senior police officers negligent, with action now pending from the IG Punjab.

The inquiry committee formed by the Punjab Inspector General of Police to investigate the Bhati Gate tragedy has completed its investigation and submitted its findings, police sources confirmed on Thursday.

The three-member committee was headed by Additional IG IAB Imran Mahmood and included DIG Ahmed Nasir Aziz Work and DIG Imran Kishore. The panel was assigned to examine the incident that led to the tragic death of a woman and her daughter, an event that sparked public outrage.

According to police officials, the committee visited the crime scene, reviewed all available evidence, and recorded statements from eyewitnesses. Statements from the victim woman’s family, including her husband, were also formally documented during the inquiry.

The report concluded that the loss of innocent lives was not an accident but a serious criminal act. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz strongly condemned the incident, saying it had left heads bowed in shame and that there was no justification for the loss of human life.

The inquiry found negligence on the part of the SP City, SDPO, and SHO concerned. Police sources revealed that the victim’s husband was allegedly tortured inside the SHO’s retiring room, reportedly in the presence of the SP City, highlighting grave misuse of authority.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari expressed regret over the circulation of incorrect information earlier, stating that there is zero tolerance when human lives are lost.

The committee has declared the three officers negligent and forwarded its recommendations to the IG Punjab, who will take the final decision regarding disciplinary and legal action.
