According to sources, a major development has taken place regarding the revival of the Basant Festival in Lahore, as the senior provincial minister has called an important meeting to review the proposal.
Sources reveal that the city administration has been given two possible date options to celebrate Basant across Lahore. The suggested dates are 14 and 15 February, or 21 and 22 March, depending on the final decision of the Punjab government.
Officials say that the approval of the Basant Festival will depend entirely on the orders of the Punjab government, and no date will be finalized until the provincial leadership issues a clear directive. The Lahore Deputy Commissioner will only grant permission for the two-day festival once the government gives the green signal.
The revival of Basant has been a long-standing public demand in Lahore, a city historically known for its colorful kite-flying celebrations. However, the festival has been suspended for over a decade due to safety concerns and repeated incidents caused by illegal metal string.

If approved, Basant would return under strict regulations, with law-enforcement agencies expected to monitor kite string sales, public safety, and citywide compliance. The administration is also preparing possible guidelines to ensure that the event can be celebrated without risking human lives.
The final decision is expected soon, and the proposed dates have already sparked excitement among Basant lovers across Punjab.
