In the budget for the next fiscal year, it has been proposed to provide concessions in electricity rates for those using 200 to 300 units. The meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Privatization was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Dr. Farooq Sattar. The chairman of the committee, Farooq Sattar, said that in the budget proposals, the government will be asked to provide concessions in electricity rates to those using 200 to 300 units.
In the meeting, the committee members expressed concern over the increasing load shedding and the performance of K-Electric, HESCO and SEPCO. Load shedding and power crisis were under discussion in the meeting called on the privatization. The members expressed serious concern over the severe heat, increasing load shedding and poor arrangements by the power distribution companies.
In the meeting, members emphasized tightening supervision of electricity companies and an alternative energy policy.
Dr. Farooq Sattar expressed his anger over the performance of K-Electric, HESCO and SEPCO and said that the people have been killed due to power outrage. How can the people bear it with eighteen to twenty hours of load shedding and heat?
Where there is theft, load shedding should be done at the PMT level instead of feeders. Where is the law to torture people by shutting down entire feeders? He said that the lives of the people have become unbearable due to load shedding during the intense heat season. The people are suffering due to load shedding. The electricity distribution companies should prepare a comprehensive plan to eliminate load shedding.
Power is being cut off for 12 to 16 hours in different areas. It has become the norm to have power outages for hours in the name of maintenance. Power breakdowns have made the lives of citizens miserable. It should be noted that despite the intense heat in the capital city of Karachi, K-Electric is continuing to provide long-term load shedding. Citizens have called K-Electric s claims of ending or reducing load shedding false.
According to media reports, K-Electric had recently not only extended the duration of power outages in several areas of the city, but there were also several areas where load shedding did not occur, but now load shedding was being done regularly for 6 to 10 hours.
