Bad news for consumers as electricity likely to get more expensive

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Electricity is likely to become expensive for electricity consumers by up to RS1.27 per unit on a monthly basis. The CPPA has submitted a request for an increase in the April fuel adjustment.

According to the details, NEPRA will hold a hearing on CCPA s request tomorrow. NEPRA will announce its decision on CPPA s request after hearing it.

The CCPA petition states that 10.513 billion units of electricity were generated in April, and 10.196 billion units of electricity were supplied to power companies in April.

The cost of electricity per unit was 8.94 paisa, the reference cost was 7.68 rupees, 21.94 percent of electricity was generated from hydropower, and 14.51 percent from local coal.

Imported coal accounted for 10.02 percent of electricity generation, furnace oil for 0.97 percent, local gas for 8.01 percent, and imported LNG for 20.52 percent, while nuclear fuel accounted for 17.91 percent of electricity generation in April.

On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami approached the court over the worst electricity load shedding in Karachi, requesting that K-Electric must be stopped from illegally shutting down electricity.

Jamaat-e-Islami filed a petition in the Sindh High Court regarding electricity load shedding in Karachi. The petition filed by the opposition leader of the city council, Advocate Saifuddin, has demanded an urgent hearing. The petition filed said that K-Electric should be stopped from illegally disconnecting electricity.

Advocate Saifuddin said that there is a risk of heatwave due to intense heat in the city and load shedding during intermediate exams is affecting the education of students. The petition requested that for the convenience of K-Electric consumers, K-Electric be made to comply with NEPRA rules and ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity.
