(Web Desk): Punjab announces an extensive free transport and ride-hailing plan to ensure smooth, safe travel during Basant 2026 in Lahore.

The Punjab government has finalized a large-scale free transport plan for Basant 2026 in Lahore, aiming to provide smooth, safe, and hassle-free travel for citizens and visitors during the kite festival.

Approved by the Lahore Division Commissioner, the initiative includes free travel on major public transport systems, including the Metrobus and Orange Line Metro Train. Authorities said the Orange Line alone has the capacity to serve up to 250,000 passengers daily, while the Gajju Mata–Shahdara Metrobus corridor can accommodate around 87,000 passengers each day.

Officials confirmed that bus services across the city will collectively cater to nearly 516,000 passengers per day. To support this, the government has arranged transport across 24 major routes in Lahore. A total of 228 feeder buses, 64 Metrobus vehicles, 54 buses from government colleges, and 73 buses from universities will be deployed during the festival period.

In a major addition this year, ride-hailing services have also been included in the plan. Companies such as Yango will provide 60,000 free cab rides, while approximately 6,000 rickshaws will ensure last-mile connectivity. The private sector is also contributing by deploying 5,000 branded rickshaws for commuters.

Authorities said the initiative is designed to reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety, and allow people to enjoy Basant without transportation concerns. The plan is part of a broader logistics and safety strategy to ensure peaceful and well-managed celebrations across Lahore.
