(Web Desk): District and Sessions Court Islamabad has acquitted senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Speaker of the National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, in the Azadi March case.

The reserved verdict on Qaiser’s acquittal plea was announced by Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah.

In connection to PTI’s 2022 Azadi March, the case was acquitted, and during the march, the party leadership called for a protest. Multiple FIRs were filed against party leaders and workers at different police stations during the march, including the Kohsar Police Station. The Kohsar Police Station accused them of violating Section 144, challenging the writ of the state, and disturbing public order.

Asad Qaiser was accused of participating in the march in defiance of the law. However, his lawyer argued that he was implicated on political grounds and that there was no concrete evidence. The court acquitted Qaiser after hearing arguments from both sides.

Many PTI leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Fawad Chaudhry, have already been acquitted in similar cases. A variety of challenges were faced by these individuals due to the 2022 protests and rallies, but the courts dismissed those charges due to lack of evidence or weak prosecution.
