Teams of experts from Iran and the United States held long discussions in Islamabad. After the meeting, both sides exchanged written proposals to move negotiations forward, according to media reports.
Earlier, the Iranian government said talks were held at the “expert-level stage as economic, military, legal, and nuclear committees joined”. This shows that multiple important areas are being discussed together.
The statement also said, “Negotiations continue at the Serena Hotel to finalise technical details”. This indicates that talks are still ongoing and focused on key issues.
These negotiations are taking place during a two week ceasefire in the US Israeli war against Iran. The conflict had started on February 28 and later paused after Pakistan helped arrange a ceasefire on April 8.
Delegations from both countries have arrived in Islamabad for these talks. The meetings are being seen as an important step toward reducing tensions.
The US delegation is led by Vice President JD Vance. He is joined by Jared Kushner and envoy Steve Witkoff.

The Iranian delegation is led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also part of the team.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the delegation remained “fully committed” to protecting national interests. He expressed hope they would “negotiate courageously”.
He also said the government will “stand by its people” no matter what the outcome is. This shows Iran’s strong stance during the talks.
Before the negotiations, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met the Iranian delegation. These meetings were aimed at supporting peaceful dialogue.
The Prime Minister’s Office said, “Appreciating Iran’s engagement in the Islamabad Talks, the prime minister affirmed Pakistan’s sincere resolve to continue playing its role as a mediator to help build momentum towards achieving meaningful results in the interest of regional and global peace and stability”.
Senior Pakistani officials including Ishaq Dar, Asim Munir, and Mohsin Naqvi were also present. Their participation highlights Pakistan’s active role in the process.
A video shared by the PMO showed PM Shehbaz warmly welcoming Iranian leaders. He greeted them by hugging and shaking hands.
The talks are slowly moving forward with technical discussions. Both sides seem serious about finding a solution. Pakistan is playing an important role as a mediator. If progress continues, it could reduce tensions in the region.
