The Punjab government has completed preparations for a strict province wide crackdown against littering. Officials say the main goal is to protect public health, improve the environment, and keep cities and towns clean.
An anti littering campaign is ready to begin across Punjab. The government has announced a zero tolerance policy against throwing or burning garbage in public places. Violators will face heavy fines and prison sentences.
Under the new rules, burning garbage can lead to a fine of up to Rs500,000 and imprisonment of up to three years. Punishment for burning tyres will be even tougher, with fines reaching Rs500,000 and jail terms of up to seven years.

Officials said the overall punishment system allows fines from Rs50,000 to Rs500,000, depending on the type of violation. Prison sentences may range from three to seven years in serious cases.
Separate penalties have also been fixed for different kinds of littering. Throwing garbage outside a house, shop, or factory will result in a fine of Rs25,000.
Dumping waste into street or neighbourhood drains will carry a fine of Rs10,000. Throwing animal waste or remains will attract a heavy fine of Rs50,000.
To ensure strict enforcement, the Suthra Punjab Authority has formed special enforcement teams. These teams will monitor streets, residential areas, commercial zones, and industrial areas to ensure the new laws are followed.
The government has urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and dispose of waste responsibly. Officials say public support is key to avoiding fines and improving environmental conditions across Punjab.
