The Punjab government has announced plans to extend Safe Basant celebrations to more cities across the province following the successful and incident-free observance of the festival in Lahore.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif confirmed the decision while praising families, children, and residents for celebrating responsibly and strictly adhering to safety guidelines. She said the festival restored color, joy, and cultural vibrancy across Lahore’s safari and wildlife parks while prioritizing public safety.
“I am happy that the people of Lahore lived up to our trust. Lahore is happy today, and so am I,” the chief minister stated, highlighting strong public cooperation throughout the festivities.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that citizens fully complied with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including limits on kite size, approved paper quality, and a complete ban on metallic, chemical-coated, and hazardous kite strings. She noted that no violations involving dangerous strings were reported, which also helped protect electricity infrastructure and transformers citywide.
The chief minister said Basant activities were conducted safely on rooftops, crediting early planning and strict enforcement for preventing accidents and mishaps. To ensure public health preparedness, the provincial government deployed 200 Clinics on Wheels and 21 field hospitals in high-activity areas, including Liberty Market and the Walled City.
Following Lahore’s success, Maryam Nawaz confirmed that the Safe Basant model will now be introduced in other Punjab cities. She urged citizens to continue celebrating responsibly as the festival concludes, stressing that public safety remains the government’s top priority.
