LAHORE (Web Desk): Afghanistan’s Taliban administration and Pakistan have held fresh peace talks in Saudi Arabia and agreed to maintain a ceasefire.

Following the talks hosted by Qatar and Turkiye, the two sides “failed to come to a peace agreement”. However, both sides agreed on maintaining the ceasefire.

One of the senior Afghan Taliban officials said, “We are open to more meetings to see a positive outcome.”

Islamabad claimed that militants operating from Afghanistan are carrying out attacks in Pakistan, while Kabul has failed to respond to repeated requests to act against them. The Taliban, however, denies that Pakistani militants are using its territory.

According to Pakistani authorities, the suicide attackers in recent incidents, notably the Islamabad bombing that killed 12, have been confirmed as Afghan nationals.

Both sides had signed a ceasefire in Doha in October, but a follow-up round of talks in Istanbul last month collapsed without reaching a long-term agreement.

Therefore, Islamabad demanded a formal assurance from Kabul to act against anti-Pakistan militants, but the Afghan Taliban said it cannot be held responsible for security in Pakistan.
