RAWALPINDI (Web Desk): Metro bus service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi was restored after talks between staff and management ended a protest over salary delay.

The metro bus service in the twin cities remained suspended for several hours due to employee protests. Workers stopped work after salaries were not paid on time, causing serious trouble for daily commuters.

Employees staged a sit-in near the IJP Road Faizabad stop and blocked the track. Bus operations came to a complete halt, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and confused. Ticket counters were also shut during the protest.

Workers said they are hired through a private contractor. They complained that salaries are delayed every month and that an Rs6,000 commission is deducted, which they said is unfair and unacceptable.

The situation improved after RTA Secretary Asad Abbas Shirazi intervened. He said employees ended the strike after receiving assurances from the private company. He also held talks with metro management for immediate salary payments.

Asad Abbas Shirazi said the issue was taken seriously. He added that steps are being taken to ensure timely payment of salaries and to prevent any future disruption of the metro bus service.

This incident shows how salary delays can quickly disrupt public transport. Workers’ concerns directly affect passengers. A permanent solution is needed to avoid repeat shutdowns.
