In a significant political development, the first official contact between the government and the opposition has taken place to ease rising tensions. Sources said Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai met Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah at Parliament House.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed the overall political situation in the country. According to sources, Rana Sanaullah suggested moving forward on key national issues through political consensus. Mahmood Khan Achakzai stressed the need to create an environment for meaningful negotiations.
Sources further revealed that Achakzai also raised the issue of PTI founder Imran Khan’s health during the meeting. The matter was reportedly discussed in detail.

It is important to recall that in December last year, an opposition alliance meeting had expressed willingness to hold talks for the protection of the Constitution, democracy, human rights and rule of law. The opposition had agreed to work towards a new charter based on these principles.
Earlier, PTI founder Imran Khan had authorised Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas to negotiate with the government. According to Tehreek Tahaffuz Aain Pakistan spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain, Achakzai had stated that their negotiation centre would be Adiala Jail and guidance would be taken from there.
The recent contact has sparked speculation that political deadlock may gradually ease if both sides continue dialogue with seriousness.
This meeting may be a small step, but it is important. Dialogue can reduce tension. Political stability depends on compromise. If talks continue honestly, the situation may improve slowly.
