Follow-up eye treatment: Imran Khan shifted to PIMS for second injection
(Web Desk): Imran Khan was shifted from Adiala Jail to PIMS Hospital for follow-up eye treatment, where he received a second anti-VEGF injection after specialist review.

Former prime minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan, was brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a scheduled follow-up regarding his ongoing eye condition.

According to an official press release issued by the Executive Director of PIMS, Mr. Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi, 74, was transferred from Adiala Jail on February 24, 2026, to receive the second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection.

The anti-VEGF injection is commonly used to treat retinal and vision-related disorders by reducing abnormal blood vessel growth and swelling in the eye, helping restore and stabilize eyesight.

Specialist Board Examination and Health Clearance

Before the procedure, Imran Khan was examined by a board of specialists, including a consultant cardiologist and a consultant physician. The cardiologist performed echocardiography and an ECG, both of which returned normal results. Hospital officials confirmed that he was clinically and vitally stable prior to the injection.

After obtaining informed consent, the second intravitreal anti-VEGF injection was administered under microscopic guidance in the operation theatre. The procedure was supervised by a consultant ophthalmologist and a consultant vitreoretinal surgeon from PIMS, along with a specialist from Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital.

Day-Care Surgery and Discharge

The eye treatment was conducted as a day-care surgery. Hospital authorities stated that Imran Khan remained stable before, during, and after the procedure.

Following successful administration of the injection, he was discharged with medical instructions, a prescription, and follow-up advice for continued treatment.

The development comes amid ongoing legal and political developments surrounding the PTI founder, who remains incarcerated at Adiala Jail.
