(Web Desk): After Italy, five European countries agreed to provide job opportunities for Pakistanis, boosting legal migration and helping curb illegal immigration routes.

In a major development for overseas employment, five European countries have agreed in principle to provide official job opportunities for Pakistani nationals, following high-level talks on migration and security in Warsaw.

The breakthrough came during a six-country interior ministers’ conference hosted in Warsaw, where Pakistan’s delegation was led by Mohsin Naqvi.

European Countries Offering Jobs to Pakistanis

The participating European nations included:

  • Poland
  • Estonia
  • Latvia
  • Finland
  • Lithuania

Officials from these countries praised Pakistan’s efforts to curb illegal immigration and human smuggling networks, acknowledging recent enforcement actions and border control measures.

Focus on Legal Migration and Labor Mobility

According to the joint communiqué, the five European states agreed at the official level to explore structured employment opportunities for Pakistanis.

The move is aimed at:

  • Promoting legal migration pathways
  • Reducing irregular migration to Europe
  • Enhancing bilateral labor cooperation
  • Strengthening migration management systems

This development follows Italy’s earlier announcement regarding labor quotas for foreign workers, including Pakistanis.

47% Drop in Illegal Immigration from Pakistan

Speaking at the conference, Mohsin Naqvi stated that illegal immigration from Pakistan to Europe has declined by 47%, reflecting intensified action against human trafficking groups.

He highlighted Pakistan’s strategic role in regional security, particularly along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, noting that multiple terrorist organizations are active in Afghanistan.

Naqvi described Pakistan as a “wall” standing between global terrorist elements and Afghanistan, emphasizing the need for stronger international cooperation on security and migration challenges.

Combating Human Smuggling Networks

The interior ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in:

  • Intelligence sharing
  • Border security coordination
  • Anti-human trafficking measures
  • Migration policy reforms

European officials commended Islamabad’s crackdown on human smuggling networks and stressed the importance of legal employment routes to discourage dangerous migration attempts.

What This Means for Pakistani Workers

The agreement could open new employment avenues in sectors experiencing labor shortages across Northern and Eastern Europe.

Potential benefits for Pakistan include:

  • Increased remittances
  • Safer legal migration channels
  • Reduced exploitation risks
  • Stronger diplomatic and labor ties with Europe

Officials say further technical discussions will determine sector-specific quotas, skill requirements, and recruitment mechanisms.

The initiative marks a significant shift toward structured labor mobility between Pakistan and key European economies.
