LAHORE (Web Desk): Pakistan’s first ‘Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar’ housing programme for homeless families began with emotional scenes as PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif launched the scheme through a draw.

During the event, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also took part in the draw and personally called the lucky winners who received free plots under the programme.

Maryam Nawaz congratulated the selected families and connected them directly with Nawaz Sharif so they could share their joy. One of the winners, Rukhsana Bibi, received Nawaz Sharif’s call and heard him say, “Mubarak ho, a free plot has been allotted to you in the draw.” She responded with prayers and gratitude for both leaders.

Another winner from Mandi Yazman, Meero Mai, was overwhelmed when the Chief Minister called to inform her of the result. Her husband became emotional after speaking with Nawaz Sharif and expressed deep happiness.

In another call, a man named Ramesh Lal reacted with excitement when Nawaz Sharif asked, “Do you know me?” He replied, “This is not even a question. You are our greatest national leader,” expressing affection and admiration.

These personal phone calls created strong emotional engagement with the public. Experts say such gestures build a feeling of trust and closeness between leaders and citizens.

The launch also signals the government’s effort to show practical support for low-income families. The analysts believe the programme may boost political goodwill as beneficiaries share their experiences.
