
Ansari revealed that federal government wanted to provide better transportation to people but the Green Line Phase 2 work was stopped due to interference from Karachi’s mayor.
The first phase, covering 21 km, is already operating and serves 42,000 people daily.
Phase 2 runs from Guru Mandir to Municipal Park Saddar, but despite receiving an NOC in 2017, work was halted soon after it began.
Ansari said the government plans to complete the second phase by 2026, in collaboration with the Sindh government.
Once completed, all Green Line buses will be linked, improving Karachi’s overall public transport system.
He also noted that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had urged PM Shehbaz Sharif to accelerate development in Sindh.

This news highlights a political and administrative deadlock in Karachi’s public transport development. While the federal government appears committed to improving infrastructure, local political conflicts—particularly interference by Karachi’s mayor—are slowing progress.
