LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has approved a Rs. 15,000 salary increase for civil defense employees, giving long-awaited financial relief to the department's staff.

Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari made the announcement during a press conference. She also revealed that flood relief cheques will begin distribution from October 17 under district administration supervision.

Bukhari emphasized that the provincial government acted swiftly during the recent floods, preventing greater damage. She criticized political opponents who, she said, only talk and politicize crises without contributing solutions.

“Some ask where the 90,000 houses are, but in Punjab, homes and solar projects are not for sale,” she added, indirectly responding to political critics.

She also conveyed Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s disappointment with certain political figures  behavior during difficult times in Punjab.

This move by the Punjab government appears strategic — aimed at both offering relief to government employees and controlling political narratives around flood handling and public welfare.

The Rs. 15,000 salary increase signals a financial boost during inflation, while the cheque distribution shows the government’s intent to support flood-hit citizens. Meanwhile, the minister’s strong statements indicate rising political tensions and an attempt to assert credibility against opposition critics.

With elections on the horizon and public scrutiny increasing, this could be seen as a pre-emptive image-building effort by Maryam Nawaz’s administration.
