JHELUM: (Web Desk): Controversial but popular cleric Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza has been arrested in Jhelum, Suno News has learnt.

His arrest has left his followers stunned sparking a heated debate nationwide.

According to reports, officials from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency raided an academy in Jhelum’s Mashini Mohalla area and took Muhammad Ali Mirza into custody.

Sources revealed that Mirza was arrested under the 3 MPO on the orders of Jhelum’s Deputy Commissioner Syed Maysam Abbas after he allegedly delivered a controversial religious statement. He was shifted to jail immediately, while his academy was sealed and locked down. Authorities stated that the arrest aimed to maintain law and order.

It is worth noting that Muhammad Ali Mirza is widely known for his online religious lectures. He frequently discusses sensitive social and religious issues, which has made him both highly popular and equally controversial. His outspoken views and bold interpretations have often triggered strong reactions from different circles.

Mirza has regularly been uploading his recorded as well as live videos of lectures and speeches on his social media pages and has 3.1 million followers on his YouTube channel.

In 2022, an assassination attempt on Mirza was foiled at his research academy in Jhelum after a man carrying a gun was caught by the security guard.

The accused had concealed his gun inside a book by shredding its pages and placing it in a bag, according to police. The accused tried to enter the academy where Mirza was delivering a lecture, after which the security man caught him, police official had said.

The suspect who allegedly attacked Mirza with a sharp-edged weapon had taken into custody and a case was registered against him.

Mirza in his complaint said although the attacker was reaching for his neck, he moved quickly and was struck on his shoulder instead. The assailant then made a second attempt to reach Mirza but was stopped by two men present in the hall, according to the FIR.
