(Web Desk): Punjab launched a modern electric bus service in Rawalpindi to boost clean transport and improve urban mobility.

The Punjab government has launched its new electric bus service in Rawalpindi, marking a major shift toward clean and affordable public transport. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the service on Wednesday.

The new electric buses offer air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, charging ports, and wheelchair access. They also include a separate compartment for women. The fare is Rs. 20, while women, senior citizens, and children with special needs can travel free.

Officials said the project is part of a wider development plan for Rawalpindi. The plan includes new flyovers, signal-free corridors, and major road upgrades. The government has allocated significant funds to improve the road network and support the new transport system.

The chief minister said the transport upgrade will make daily travel faster and safer. She added that the new buses will cut emissions and reduce traffic pressure in busy areas.

Maryam Nawaz also highlighted ongoing improvements in healthcare, education, and social welfare. New hospitals and schools are under construction. Existing facilities are being modernized to meet rising population needs.

Officials added that more infrastructure projects are planned for the coming months. They said these projects will support the bus service and help shape a modern, sustainable city.
