(Web Desk): Pakistan may soon end dual citizenship for government officials, requiring them to choose between their job or a foreign passport.

While discussions continue on the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, a new proposal has emerged seeking to end dual citizenship for Pakistani government officials.

According to preliminary reports, the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment reportedly includes a significant clause suggesting the end of dual citizenship for Pakistanis. If approved, any Pakistani who acquires citizenship of another country would automatically lose their Pakistani nationality.

The draft amendment aims to reform several constitutional provisions related to citizenship, judicial powers, and administrative structure. The move to end dual nationality is said to be part of the broader framework of constitutional restructuring being discussed between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)–led government and allied parties.

The 27th Amendment Bill, which also includes broader constitutional changes, is still under review and has not yet been presented in Parliament. The government is expected to pursue political consensus before finalizing and introducing the legislation.
