LAHORE (Web Desk): The upcoming Islamic year 1447 Hijri is expected to start on Friday, June 27, as per astronomical forecasts.

According to forecast, the Muharram crescent moon would not be visible on June 25, as it will take birth at 3:31 PM on that day and it will be impossible for it to be observed by the naked eye, particularly in South Asia and the Middle East region.

But astronomers report there is a faint chance the moon will be visible in telescopes in the United States in some areas on the night of June 25. Around the world, June 26 offers the best chance to see the crescent, reinforcing the prediction that the Muharram 1st will occur on June 27, a Friday, in most places, including Pakistan.

If this prediction is accurate, then Youm-e-Ashura (10th of Muharram) will be celebrated throughout the nation on Sunday, July 6.

It should be mentioned that in Pakistan, it is religious authorities, such as the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, that will make the formal announcement of the Islamic New Year during a meeting set for June 26 to confirm sightings on the basis of eyewitness accounts.
