
Total lunar eclipse, blood moon, September 7-8, 2025: The second total lunar eclipse of the year will turn the moon into a vibrant copper-red "blood moon" as Earth’s shadow moves across its surface, visible from vast regions including Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, and Antarctica.
Blood Moon Appearance in Pakistan:
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), In Pakistan, skywatchers will be able to witness the blood moon during the night of September 7.
The moon will slowly darken and take on a deep reddish hue, caused by sunlight filtering through Earth s atmosphere and casting a coppery glow on the lunar surface.
The PMD also reports that the blood moon will be visible starting from approximately 9:30 PM local time and will last for around one hour and 20 minutes during its total phase.

What Causes the Blood Moon?
A blood moon occurs during a total lunar eclipse when Earth is directly between the sun and the moon.
As Earth blocks direct sunlight, the only light reaching the moon passes through Earth s atmosphere, which scatters shorter wavelengths of light and allows the longer red wavelengths to cast a reddish glow on the moon’s surface, according to the NASA.
