Sources acquainted with his family state that Talpur died after a prolonged illness.
Nawab Yousuf Talpur, 82, was elected as a Member of the National Assembly from Umarkot constituency, NA-213 in the 2024 General Elections.
He firstly elected as MPA in 1977. He had served as a member of the National Assembly from Umarkot’s constituency since 2002.
Nawab Yousaf Talpur clinched victory against Shah Mahmood Qureshi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in general elections in 2013.
Yousuf Talpur was prominent figure in Sindh’s political landscape and long-time member of PPP’s central executive committee. He actively participated in the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD). He was known for advocating Sindh’s water rights and minority issues.
He is survived by two sons (Nawab Taimur Talpur, MPA and Nawab Younis Talpur) four daughters and a wife.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani expressed grief over the demise of Nawab Yousuf Talpur.
