Punjab rolls out School Meal Program across eight districts
(Web Desk): The Government of Punjab has launched an ambitious School Meal Program targeting eight districts.

As a part of a vigorous push to combat child malnutrition and bolster school attendance, the eight districts targeted are Bhakkar, Bahawalnagar, DG Khan, Layyah, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, and Rajanpur.

A Steering Committee has been officially notified to oversee the program’s successful execution. This committee’s inaugural meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025, at 10:00 am in the PECTAA (Punjab Education Curriculum Training & Assessment Authority) committee room, chaired by the Secretary of the School Education Department.

Establishing systems for recycling biscuit wrappers, determining efficient delivery schedules, selecting a third-party firm to monitor program implementation, and reviewing working papers and presentations prepared by the Program Director, PMIU PESRP, to facilitate informed decision-making are included in the agenda of the program.

Officials from the Finance Department, Planning & Development Board, and Food Authority, along with representatives from the District Education Authorities in the selected districts, are included in the participants.

The Government’s commitment to ensuring the School Meal Program is implemented effectively—with robust planning, oversight, and timely delivery of quality meals to schoolchildren—has been signaled by the committee’s formation.

This initiative builds on earlier phases like the School Nutrition Program piloted in DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, and Rajanpur, which saw considerable impact in reducing malnutrition and boosting enrollment through the provision of daily milk packs.
