It allows vehicles to be registered in any district across the province. This change removes the previous rule that required registration to be linked to the owner’s permanent residential district.
Excise Director General Umar Sher Chattha stated that the aim of these reforms is to enhance inter-district mobility and streamline the registration process. The current registration series will remain unchanged, but with the added convenience of online payment options and electronic registration cards.
Additionally, the Excise Department has reported a record revenue of Rs. 30.453 billion for the first half of FY 2024-25, reflecting a 23% year-on-year growth.
In another development, the Punjab government formed a plan to stop residents of the province from registering their vehicles in Islamabad or other provinces to curb tax evasion.
Earlier, this practice was used to evade taxes, leading to tax collection concerns and growing security. As per new plan, stringent penalties will be introduced for residents of Punjab if they register vehicles outside the province.
