
The Punjab cabinet has given the green light to a landmark lifetime pension scheme for the widows of government employees, ensuring lasting financial support for the families of deceased public servants.
This significant decision was made during the 28th meeting of the provincial cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The initiative highlights the government’s dedication to honoring the service and sacrifice of its employees by safeguarding their families future.

In addition to the pension scheme, the cabinet also recognized the efforts of rescue workers involved in flood relief, approving a reward of Rs 50,000 for each worker. To strengthen disaster response, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) was granted Rs 2.6 billion to continue flood recovery operations across the province.
Education reforms were also approved, including formal assessments for grade five and standardized exams for grade eight. The cabinet further decided to appoint Vice Chancellors from the open market, with an 80% eligibility threshold.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz further directed the establishment of a structured prison industry, aiming to provide inmates with skill-based, productive opportunities. Additionally, a new online application system for petrol station permits was approved to streamline business processes.
This cabinet session highlighted Punjab’s focus on social welfare, education reform, and efficient governance.
