According to a statement issued by the Power Division, the Apna Meter, Apna Reading smart app will allow consumers to take a picture of their meter on a specific date and upload it to the app, based on which their monthly bill will be issued.
The Ministry of Power Division says that the aim of this app is to provide solutions to problems such as overbilling, reading errors, and delays in reading. Consumers will not only be able to keep track of their bills, but they will also be the guardians of the reading process.
According to the announcement, if both the user and the meter reader upload readings, the lower reading will be given priority. If the user provides the reading on the specified day, then the meter reader s reading will not be given priority, only the reading provided by the user will be fed.
The announcement states that this system is beneficial for consumers who are eligible for government subsidies. The bill for consumers using up to 200 units of electricity is approximately Rs2,330. With just one unit increase, the bill reaches Rs8,104 due to the end of the subsidy. The app will ensure that beneficiaries benefit from the subsidy by providing timely readings.
