According to sources some schools have already transitioned to solar power without the government s help. Principals who do not submit the required data might face disciplinary action as warned by the notification. The initiative to shift schools to solar power has been underway for 5 years now but because of finite financial resources, schools have been forced to make the shift themselves by installing solar panels independently through self-funding, as stated by Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) General Secretary Rana Liaquat Ali.
He added that in some cases Rs. 15,000 was collected from teachers by school administrations in order to buy solar panels. He also stressed that there should be even-handed support in the implementation of renewable energy sources. Moreover, he urged the government to make sure that every school in the province gets free solar panels.
