To be clear, September 23 is not a public holiday in Pakistan. It is, though, of great importance in Saudi Arabia, as the kingdom will celebrate its 95th National Day in grand celebration.
The Saudi government formally announced September 23 as a national holiday throughout the country. The occasion celebrates the historic edict given by King Abdulaziz, the Saudi founder, who merged Najd and Hejaz to create the contemporary Saudi state in 1932.
It was commemorated for the first time in 1965 by King Faisal, and then in 2005 King Abdullah announced that it would be an official public holiday. The event has been celebrated every year with fervor, patriotism, and national celebrations ever since.
The theme for this year, "Our Pride is in Our Nature," showcases the cultural heritage of the kingdom, its natural surroundings, and values such as hospitality, generosity, courage, and dignity. As reported by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), the festivities will include dazzling events such as fireworks, drone shows, aerial stunts by the Saudi Hawks, traditional dances, and cultural exhibitions.
