In a chilling twist that has shocked the country, security forces have arrested Dr. Usman Qazi a university lecturer at BUITEMS who has confessed to playing a central role in training and supporting suicide bombers for planned terrorist attacks in Balochistan. He was taken into custody on August 12, just a day after a suicide attacker was caught in Quetta while preparing for a deadly strike set for August 14.
The captured bomber revealed during interrogation that Dr. Qazi had personally trained him and connected him with operatives of the banned BLA’s Majeed Brigade. Acting swiftly, security forces raided a location in Afnaan Town and arrested Qazi. Another terrorist was also apprehended during the operation.

Investigations revealed that Qazi had helped orchestrate the 2024 suicide bombing at Quetta Railway Station and was actively recruiting and training others for future missions. His confession has left many stunned, particularly because of his background as a respected academic.
In a video statement shown at a press conference by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, Dr. Qazi admitted to his involvement. With visible regret, he said, “The state gave me everything respect, position, and dignity. I betrayed my country and I am truly ashamed.” He also disclosed that he received direct instructions from militant leader Harbiyar Marri and used Telegram to coordinate attacks.
Security agencies are now widening the investigation to uncover the full extent of the terror network Qazi was part of. His arrest has sparked deep concern across the academic and security sectors, raising tough questions about how extremist ideologies are reaching even the educated elite.
Meanwhile, in a separate session addressing students from Balochistan, DG ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry emphasized that Pakistan s ongoing counter-terror operations target only terrorists not innocent civilians. He praised the resilience of the people of Balochistan and underlined the importance of public involvement in building lasting peace.
He stated that true progress in the region is only possible when local communities, especially youth and women, work alongside the state. Reflecting on the sacrifices of security personnel like Major Muhammad Anwar Kakar, he reiterated that Balochistan’s future lies in unity, not division.
