
According to reports the train on its way from Lahore to Karachi when it encountered the accident during the pre-dawn hours.
Rescue 1122 staff and police reached the site speedily, initiating a massive operation to evacuate the passengers and administer first aid. The injured persons were transferred to nearby hospital. Three of them who were critically injured were sent to Bahawalpur for proper medical treatment.

An alternative train was later arranged to transport the remaining passengers to Karachi. Meanwhile, repair work has begun on the damaged track, and railway officials have ordered a formal inquiry into the incident.
The reason for the derailment still remains to be determined. The accident, however, comes amid heightened alarm over the aging railway infrastructure of Pakistan. Only last week, two bogies of the Musa Pak Express derailed in Raiwind, leaving four passengers injured. The incident at the time was attributed to a brake failure by officials.
