Ashura 2025: Mobile services to remain suspended in sensitive areas

(Web Desk): The sacred day of Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, will be observed tomorrow (Sunday) with deep religious devotion across Pakistan and around the world in remembrance of the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala.

Mourning processions will be held today and tomorrow in major and smaller cities throughout the country. These processions will include Tazia, Zuljanah, and Alam processions, while Majalis will be held at Imambargahs and homes, where mourners will perform matam and zanjeer zani.

Religious scholars and speakers will shed light on the teachings of Imam Hussain (RA), the Karbala tragedy, and its various spiritual and historical aspects. Special seminars and conferences will also be organized in mosques and public venues in connection with Ashura.

In view of the significance and sensitivity of the day, tight security arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incidents. Mobile control rooms have been set up, and the services of Pakistan Army have been requested for support. Double riding on motorcycles and the use of drones have been strictly prohibited in several major cities such Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi and others.

Mobile phone services will remain suspended in sensitive areas and along procession routes, with services expected to resume after 10 PM on Sunday night, according to police officials. Markets along procession routes will remain closed, and Rangers will assist the police in maintaining law and order.

Authorities have also issued traffic advisory plans for the 9th and 10th of Muharram in all major cities to ensure smooth movement and safety of the mourners.
