(Web Desk): Defense Minister Khawaja Asif confirms Islamabad suicide attack was carried out by a Pakistani, citing links to Afghanistan and proxy threats from India.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif confirmed that the recent suicide attack in Islamabad was carried out by a Pakistani national who had previously traveled to Afghanistan. The revelation sheds light on the attacker’s background and potential cross-border connections.

In an interview with a private television channel, Khawaja Asif said the attack aimed to disrupt Pakistan’s development and targeted a period when agreements were being signed with two countries, indicating a strategic choice by the attackers.

The Defense Minister emphasized that India could not directly launch aggression against Pakistan but was allegedly attempting to destabilize peace in the country through proxies and activities linked to Afghanistan. He stressed that cross-border interference remains a significant threat to Pakistan’s security.

According to Asif, the suicide attacker had traveled from Nowshera to Islamabad. Security forces have traced and reached out to the attacker’s relatives as part of ongoing investigations.

He also highlighted the cooperation between the federal government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in counter-terrorism efforts. Asif noted that the provincial government is now actively taking ownership in the fight against terrorism, signaling a stronger local role in security operations.

The defense minister’s comments come amid heightened security measures across the capital and ongoing investigations into the attack’s planning and execution. Authorities continue to prioritize public safety while ensuring coordination among all levels of government to prevent future incidents.
