(Web Desk): Huge crowds flood Lahore markets for Basant shopping, but rising kite and string prices leave many buyers struggling.

Basant rush filled markets as citizens crowded shops to buy kites and strings, but rising prices surprised many festival lovers.

On the second day of Basant celebrations, a large number of people turned to markets, especially in Mochi Gate and the inner city areas, to purchase colorful kites and strings. Kite sellers reported heavy crowds as both children and adults gathered outside shops, eager to join the traditional festival.

Despite the excitement, inflation has made Basant shopping more expensive this year. Many buyers said the high cost of kite strings forced them to limit their purchases. Some citizens said they could only afford to buy thread instead of complete kite sets.

Shopkeepers displayed a wide variety of bright and attractive kites, which became the main attraction for customers. However, several citizens complained that increased prices have made it difficult to fully enjoy the festival.

Visitors from other cities also arrived in Lahore to participate in Basant and actively bought kites and strings. The strong demand kept markets busy throughout the day.

According to traders, a full bundle of kite string, known as “panna,” is being sold between Rs 34000 and Rs 40000, reflecting a significant rise in prices compared to previous years.

Despite the high costs, the enthusiasm for Basant remains strong, showing the deep cultural importance of the festival and the passion of people to continue this colorful tradition.
